Position Summary
Freedom Operating Company is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accounting Analyst to support the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end close processes. This position will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer within a small, collaborative accounting department and will be responsible for general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and financial analysis.
The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to independently research and resolve accounting discrepancies. Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is strongly preferred. A Certified Public Accountant designation is highly desirable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with managing and coordinating the monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close processes.
  • Prepare and post monthly and quarterly general ledger journal entries.
  • Prepare recurring, adjusting, and accrual entries and ensure all accruals are reasonable, properly supported, and accurately recorded.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts each month and research or resolve identified discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Perform account analysis for transactions affecting cash flow and assist with cash flow reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review by the CFO.
  • Develop and maintain the monthly closing calendar for review and approval by the CFO.
  • Conduct account analysis, research unusual transactions, and provide explanations regarding account activity and financial variances.
  • Prepare monthly accounts payable aging reports and identify invoices to be included in payment processing.
  • Process and print accounts payable checks and submit positive-pay files to the appropriate banking institution.
  • Initiate wire transfers for review and approval by authorized members of management.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for journal entries, reconciliations, financial reports, and other accounting transactions.
  • Develop and maintain accounting procedures and process documentation, coordinating with other departments as necessary.
  • Assist with audit preparation and provide requested schedules, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, reporting accuracy, and departmental efficiency.
  • Complete financial analyses, accounting research, and special projects assigned by the CEO or CFO.
  • Provide additional accounting and administrative support as needed within the department.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible accounting or financial reporting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, account analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to research discrepancies, analyze complex transactions, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet monthly and quarterly reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with financial and company information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous accounting experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience with oil and gas accounting practices, terminology, or financial reporting.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation or active progress toward CPA certification.
  • Experience with accounting software (Enertia Software preferred), enterprise resource planning systems, banking platforms, and positive-pay processes.
  • Experience assisting with financial audits, internal controls, or process improvement initiatives.

  • Thorough understanding of general ledger activity and financial statement relationships.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the CFO and other departments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize time-sensitive accounting responsibilities.
  • Sound professional judgment and a high level of integrity.
  • Adaptability and willingness to assist with responsibilities outside of the position’s primary functions in a small-company environment.
Work Environment
This position is based in Freedom Operating Company’s Tulsa, Oklahoma office.
